Winter Sonnet
The wintry wind rushes over the hill.
The earth is asleep, so quiet and still.
Clear glass icicles sparkle in the sun.
Trees sway in the breeze and day is done.
During the night the snow softly sets down.
A muffled white mantle covers the ground.
A gentle blanket on the hard driveway,
So in the morning, children get to play.
The roof and trees are all frosted with sleet.
Cars slip and slide down the freshly slick street.
The chill time will last for day after day
‘Til springtime comes and melts it all away.
All is bright and hopeful in light white snow,
Except for the sky which is gray, you know.
But contrast is needed in paradise.
So the world divides with recurrent ice.
Flush with foliage, then to bracing and stark.
The ebbing and flowing of light and dark.

Story:
I was so sick of all of the Donald Trump bashing. People crying out it’s the end of the world as we know it…. gee whiz? really guys?
Everything has its time and season. That includes political liberalism and political conservatism as well. It was a subtle hint to shine some light to all of my artsy leftist friends. However, I don’t think any one of them got it. Those that choose to dwell in darkness and hatred, will dwell there. Otherwise, they’d turn on their own light.
The image was taken on the day of the first snow up at Mount Charleston in the Spring Mountains, the mountain range just west of the city of Las Vegas, NV.
